This fast-paced, interactive and fun presentation highlights what is new at the interface between brain, body and heart research, as it applies to learning, development, and intelligence. At the same time the presentation underscores the imperative to take very seriously the need for "whole child" education in order to prepare the next generation for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
In the past ten years more has been learned about the brain than in all previous years combined. A virtual explosion in knowledge has occured that is rapidly altering the landscape of what we know about human learning, development and potential. More recently, science has made important discoveries about the human heart as an organ of intelligence. Moreover the body itself has a vast intelligence and "brain" of its own. Movement, play and hands-on learning, for example, are vital in the organization of the brain throughout life. These findings have vast and exciting implications for childhood development, adolescent well-being, and adult creativity.
