Student Assistance Teams (SAT's), Student Assistance Programs (SAPs), Core- and Care-Teams, -- different names for the same desired outcome: healthy, drug-free, successful students. SAT's have progressed markedly since they were first conceptualized and developed in the 1980's. Since then, much has been learned about the effective use of these initiatives to support the healthy lifestyle choices and school success of young people.  This training explores the theory, research and practical application critical to Student Assistance Team success, doing so in an informative, engaging and enjoyable way.  A  mixture of lecture, individual and small-group activities, role play, media and action planning are used throughout each training day in order to

• Gain knowledge about substance abuse prevention and wellness
• Foster understanding about core principles underlying all successful Student Assistance Teams
• Develop the skills and competencies to succeed in prevention and intervention

As A Result of This Training Participants Will:

• Gain knowledge about the effects of alcohol and other drugs on the growing brain, and how these effects impact learning, classroom management, and school climate.
• Understand the link between student drug use trends and the need for a properly developed, school-based drug prevention and intervention program.
• Implement key components necessary for a highly effective program.
• Develop a clear plan of action with specific indicators by which on-going progress can be gauged.

Highlight of Topics To Be Included in the Training:

• Childhood/Adolescent Brain Development
